The oval mirror has gradually evolved into a decorative fixture in the home from year’s times gone by when the oval frame was traditionally used to frame portraits hung on the walls of castles and palaces.

Today you will find many decorators use oval mirrors to enhance modern decor and furniture in offices, homes and boardrooms. This type of mirror is also used to soften the sharp architectural lines without ruining the general appearance and overall ambience of the room where it has been placed.

There are now available a number of different decorative oval mirrors that when positioned strategically can surprisingly transform the décor of a dreary looking room into an ultra modern look.

Alternatively, a bedroom or study in a home that is fitted out with richly varnished natural timber walls and joinery can be given a modern look simply by hanging an oval mirror with a nice hardwood frame. The soft contours and high gloss polished wooden frame would complement the décor and surroundings if it was painted or varnished in a rich walnut or natural brown color.

A room that is decorated with expensive antique pieces and intricately carved furniture would suit either an ornamental or antique oval mirror with a frame decorated in gold leaf or gold spray or even champagne silver. Such a mirror would not look out of place because it would fit in with the existing furniture and take pride of place either above the fireplace or as a feature on one of the walls.

Aluminum framed oval mirrors are today often used in modern bathrooms with the frame made in a number of different materials such as customised wood, colored plastic and aluminum. The simple frameless oval mirror is also very popular in the modern bathroom as they add an element of grace and style when complimented with colorful towels and shiny stainless steel fittings.
